Its 130-year reign of being one of the pre-eminent science and nature magazines has fallen victim to its decision to embrace wokeness.

Post

The Washington Post reports that National Geographic, which was renowned for exposing pre-teen and teenage boys to their first visuals of the female anatomy, has let go of “all of its last remaining staff writers.” The Post reports that the magazine had some 12 million subscribers at its peak in the 1980s.

Not surprisingly, the National Geographic (Nat Geo) brand was purchased by the Disney corporation in 2019 and thus began its slide into oblivion as it embraced the same woke ideology that has permeated the Disney brand.

In announcing the layoffs, the magazine also announced it would stop printing the magazines thus making it unavailable in bookstores and other retailers.

While some of the blame for National Geographic's woes can be tied to the internet, which has made books available online and thus more convenient for readers, who can merely turn on their tablet or smartphone and access any book or magazine in the world.

As Not The Bee noted, National Geographic is another in a line of magazines that have suffered a drop in readership, with former stalwarts such as Sports Illustrated (SI) also falling victim.

Many of these brands however have also forgotten who their core readership is, with SI being a perfect example.

This year, the magazine decided to put a trans female in one version of its swimsuit issue. Last year, they featured a plus-sized swimsuit model. For years, SI’s core audience…male sports fans…looked forward to the annual swimsuit issue, where models such as Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Heidi Klum, and Kate Upton graced the cover.

National Geographic also decided to travel down the woke highway. For example, in 2016, the magazine featured a 9-year-old trans child on its cover who had “transitioned” from male to female. National Geographic was on the “cutting edge” in pushing woke gender ideology even before it became “mainstream.”

If you’re looking for an alternative to National Geographic, American Thinker is an excellent site and is home to several conservative voices. LifeSiteNews.com also covers topics in the science realm, also from a conservative viewpoint.

An excellent replacement for Sports Illustrated is Outkick.com, founded by conservative Clay Travis.
