Woke Madness Usually Kills Businesses…Now It May Have Killed Over a Thousand

A “deputy director for water resource management” in Maui may bear some responsibility for wildfire deaths.

People worldwide have watched aghast over the past week as scenes of the horrific wildfires in Maui have come across our television screens. But what if the whole disaster could have been mitigated if not avoided? That may indeed be the case.

People on the Hawaiian island are asking for answers after it appeared that numerous failures led to the carnage from wildfires that tore across the island last week. One object of their ire is a man named M. Kaleo Manuel, employed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources as the deputy director for resource management.

According to sources, Manuel allegedly delayed sending water to Maui as firefighters and even some residents desperately tried to fight back the flames.

The video was shared on social media platform X, which showed Manuel explaining his “philosophy” about water:

“Native Hawaiians treated water as one of the earthly manifestations of a god…we’ve become used to looking at water as something that we use, and not something that we revere…we can connect to that traditional value set.”

In other words, Manuel and his ilk raise water to the level of some god that needs to be worshipped, not a vital resource necessary to help extinguish raging wildfires.

Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy shared a post where he said, “Desperate residents petitioned state officials to send more water for firefighting & to help protect their properties from fire. That request went unanswered for hours, withholding critical aid to islanders.”

Other sources have discovered that Manuel is a “climate change activist and DEI devotee” who has, in the past, uttered comments such as, “Like, we can share [water], but it requires true conversations about equity.” Another interesting fact is that Manuel is an Obama Foundation leader for the Asia Pacific Region. In other words, he possesses the standard woke social justice warrior resume.

Manuel eventually relented and authorized the diversion of water. However, that wasn’t until five hours later, a time-lapse during which the wildfire virtually exploded, driven by tropical storm-force winds lashing the island. By then, the fire raged out of control, stifling attempts to open the proper release valves to divert the water to where it was needed.

While there is enough blame to go around, including government culpability for their failure to manage forests on the island properly, water is the number one tool fire departments need to control fire. That tool was blocked for at least five hours by a bureaucrat who worships at the altar of the environmental movement.

As a result, over 100 people are dead, and an estimated 1,500 are still missing.
