A representative for an Indiana bar took to social media to advise their own customers that they will remove anyone who complains about Bud Light, but then went back and asked for more customers to return.

Post

Bloomington, IN: The Fairfax Bar and Grill is trying to put out its own fires after taking to social media to announce it will toss out customers who complain about Bud Light. However, the establishment seems to be stepping on their own toes as they removed the initial post, then returned to social media to ask for customers to return.

Fairfax Bar posted the message to their customers shortly after social media influencer and trans activist Dylan Mulvaney announced a partnership with Bud Light after celebrating 365 days of "womanhood". Mulvaney was born a biological male.

The partnership quickly made national headlines and was criticized as both "nonsensical" and a "huge marketing disaster" for Anheuser- Busch, its parent company, for not understanding their base clientele. However, the move also was celebrated by many in the liberal and LGTBQ community.

Fairfax Bar and Social Media

It wasn't long before Fairfax Bar posted their opinions on social media once the controversial partnership was announced. However, many of their readers and customers took it as an very unfriendly message.

The initial post has since been removed but screenshots remain available. In a now deleted Facebook post, Fairfax Bar & Grill wrote: "We are tired of all of the hate. We are very open to debate and discussion and it’s truly a shame that we can’t have open conversations about this important political and cultural topic. Bars, in our opinion, exist as public spaces where ideas should be exchanged. Unfortunately due to all of the bigotry and hatred that has surfaced around the Bud Light controversy any patron wanting to voice their concerns about the issue will be immediately asked to pay their bill and leave our establishment."

The post is no longer available on their Facebook page and a new one took its place, but that is no longer available either. Part of the follow-up post that was removed wrote, "...with the departure of some of our regulars, we have needed new clientele, and you have answered. I’m not gonna lie, we still need more of you right now. Please continue to consider supporting us.”

Final Message

Now the Fairfax Bar and Grill has posted a new message that remains on their Facebook page. They wrote, "What I really want to convey is this: just be respectful. Different opinions are welcome here as long as they are delivered respectfully. We’d no more want ugly, aggressive or rude interactions about which sports team someone thinks is better, than about societal issues."

They continued, "We do not and will not censor opinions, but we do require civility in this establishment. So if you can’t play nice, then get out of the sandbox. That goes for everyone! Let’s remember why we even gather at a bar - to enjoy each other’s company - and raise a glass to civility."

But not everyone is convinced and it appears not everyone is forgiving of the initial message to customers. In one highly visible response from a Facebook user named Gretchen Michelle, garnered a lot of support. In Michelle's post, it said, "Like I'm all cool for people having their own opinions and all that.. But you can't invite people to "openly discuss" things and then kick them out when you don't like what they say. That's not how an open discussion works. And this is coming from someone who is super cool with gay and trans folk. Just saying."
